Re: what can still be sown this year?

cos the weather has been so bad, you can still put in the likes of carrots, spring cabbage etc. Salad stuff obviously. Pak choi in August. Potatoes can really go in any time TBH - you probably can't buy them but just use ones that have sprouted from your potato bin. Pootle on down to your local mark...

Re: People's reactions to what we see as "normal"

I have really enjoyed reading this thread.... I am not the only one! I'm fairly lucky - the guys at work and my friends are a bit in awe of what I do. One girl told her hubby what I am up to - chooks, jam, bees etc - and apparently his response to her was "why can't you do things like that?&quo...

I had to wait nearly 2 years to get one in my village and just got my bill for this year. About £24 for 137m2. Mentioned this to Mum who is the Clerk to her local Parish Council in south-west Essex, just off the M11/M25. She was astonished - they have LOADS of spare lotties - so much so, they are l...

Echo what Red said. One of mine - Mrs Pringle - did exactly the same few months ago. Really sad but at least I knew Mrs P had 15 months free-range (she was an ex-batt).

I am a veggie so for the most part it would be veggie options, but I still need some good meal ideas for the meat eaters when they are here. I think that buying in bulk is a good idea but to be honest, would I use it all? Cooking for one, you become lazy and I dont want to get like that, I enjoy co...

I thought of the compost matter thing, but we're not allowed to put "kitchen or food waste" in the bins!!! Good grief - not even veg peelings?! Then yes, it is very daft. We are lucky: we have a black bin for household waste, green box for paper cardboard glass aluminium shoes clothes boo...

I've just put a huge smile on my secretary's face - does that count? She is having a crappy day. There are only 3 secretaries in but all the fee-earners are in. Another fee-earner has come down with a MASSIVE load of photocopying that needs to go out tonight and he is being unreasonable about it. Th...

Oooh Tim, like OH tattoo - must've been painful. Personally, I love tattoos altho' bit disappointed that it has become such a fashion trend that people are having them done without careful thought. So many of my friends who had them done when they were young regret them now they are older. I have wa...

You can freeze soft fruit but don't expect them to defrost into the same form as when they went in - esp rasp and strawb. The frost breaks down the cell walls so when they defrost, they go a bit mushy. If you are going to freeze them tho', try and freeze them individually, ie get a bit tray and spre...

Think Red has hit the nail on the head - it is a minefield - and whatever anyone does, there will always be an argument against it. Hope I have at least highlighted what a dilemma it is. Thanks for the info Mr F - and I think you have proved my point. TBH, I will probably still avoid leather shoes! ...
