Don't understand my council.
they've introduced green wheelie bins for garden rubbish, ok that's a good thing but my question is; why waste money delivering ones to the flats in my area; none of which have ANY outside space?!
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very

Have you moved to Dudley?mrsflibble wrote:they've introduced green wheelie bins for garden rubbish, ok that's a good thing but my question is; why waste money delivering ones to the flats in my area; none of which have ANY outside space?!

We have the giant wheelie bins for green waste whether we want them or not but when our allotment association enquired about having a few they said no.

I'm thinking of turning mine into a composter and cutting out the middle twit.

Our plastic bottle bank has been moved and I still can't find it! Apparently it is more convenient

We had plastic, paaper, glass and tin recycling within walking distance of our house untill last summer when they removed them and didn't even put them anywhere else. Apparently not any need for them as they collect from road side.

We have wheelie bins for paper, card, plastic, and tins, but have to go to the bottle bank with glass (I think its the worry of glass being on the streets in such a lovely town on Friday and Saturday nights
!!)
For green waste, if we want it collected by the council,. you have to pre pay for 'green bags' and if you put them outside your house, and call them, they will collect for you. I think it's about £20 for 5 bags!

They probably have lots of stuff that's compostable though, and nowhere for a compost bin of their own. Even if it's only used for dead flowers and veg peelings its a start 'though they prob won't need 1 per flat!mrsflibble wrote:they've introduced green wheelie bins for garden rubbish, ok that's a good thing but my question is; why waste money delivering ones to the flats in my area; none of which have ANY outside space?!

Good grief - not even veg peelings?! Then yes, it is very daft.mrsflibble wrote:I thought of the compost matter thing, but we're not allowed to put "kitchen or food waste" in the bins!!!
We are lucky: we have a black bin for household waste, green box for paper cardboard glass aluminium shoes clothes books etc and a green bin for compostable - save that as I have 3 compost bins myself decided to use the green bin to keep the chook food in instead.

I notice that all the replies on this topic are from UK members! What does the rest of Europe do about home collecting I wonder?
We don’t have any green collections here, just your bog standard refuse one a week. But what we cannot re-use, compost of feed to stock is minimal. But I get angry when I exit my drive and see what my neighbours have put out for general refuse collection, glass, paper, cans, etc. They are so lazy.
I think we should be charged separately for rubbish collection to encourage people like that to recycle. And there should be really heavy punishments for fly tipping, MY PET HATE! Living up the country lanes myself.

Same here. No kitchen waste or animal waste (even if it is a vegetarian pet like a rabbit).Wotta Wally wrote:

We compost everything we can so the green bin would only get used if we had to do a ridiculous amount of pruning or something. Also, despite my quite specific enquiries, they have been very vague about who collects the green waste and what they do with it and where. If I were a suspicious and cynical type I might think the whole thing was an expensive PR exercise where they are seen to be doing something.
The council keep telling us that they "can't" recycle ANY plastics as there are "no local facilities" (except for the one in Bilston that they pretend doesn't exist) and plastic recycling is "not economical". South Staffordshire Council will at least recycle plastic bottles. If I lived a few streets away I'd be with them but it's all too much for Dudley to cope with.
