Actually, I can imagine they could taste quite nice, even battered, provided they are made properly, i.e. with a tasty batter, fried in clean oil (not with the taste of fish, haggis and goodness knows what else on them), drained off properly, so that the batter is crisp and not soggy, and the served, maybe, with some other fruit like cherries (which go very well with pineapple)... ANd NOT served with soggy chips, smothered in salt and vinegar!
