Growing Frame

Post: # 55881Post wulf »

Two or three years ago, my neighbour put up a 6' fence, giving me an abiding interest in getting more vertical in my gardening - it improves the view and makes the most of the relatively small amount of sun my north-facing garden gets.

Here is the first section of this year's construction:

Image

One of the ideas I am carrying over from last year is to put the end of the bamboo poles into buried glass bottles, to give larger, more stable feet and to keep the wood dry. However, learning from experience, this year I have remembered to seal the tops of the bottles (last year resulted in the bamboo standing in slow-evaporating water instead!):

The idea is to train some tomato cordons up the poles. I also want to lash some containers part-way up to grow basil, which did really well last year with more sun and less predators.

I'll post some more pictures when it starts to get "greened" with plants. Meanwhile, if anyone is interested in a tour of my garden, you can see some recent pictures on my Flickr account.

Nice wulf!

I took special note of the little greenhouse and the bottlebrush you've got growing!

I like the reflection in the beer bottle! I have no idea what your unidentified plant is either. You'll have to wait and see!

Argh - your tours reminded me that i forgot to plant radishes!!!

Your garden look really pretty, and i love the way some of the pictures are taken - so artistic! They look like they should be in one of those 'coffee table' gardening books.
