Here is the first section of this year's construction:

One of the ideas I am carrying over from last year is to put the end of the bamboo poles into buried glass bottles, to give larger, more stable feet and to keep the wood dry. However, learning from experience, this year I have remembered to seal the tops of the bottles (last year resulted in the bamboo standing in slow-evaporating water instead!):

The idea is to train some tomato cordons up the poles. I also want to lash some containers part-way up to grow basil, which did really well last year with more sun and less predators.
