One of the most important things to bear in mind is to choose somewhere with sufficient rainfall.
Much more important than temperature as that can generally be overcome with tunnels, greenhouses etc, but as OJ says, choose somewhere that suits
your idea of a perfect spot .. not someone else's.

Or sea level, here the temperature rarely goes above 22c in summer or below 6c in winter, as this peninsula is tempered by the marvellous gulf stream. Islands are good too, my choice would be Madeira or Azores except there is no way I could learn Portuguese, I can barely master English as it is.
