If you have the plants, I'd put them in. With the weird weather we've been having, we might still be lucky. (Note - I say we: I'm about to do the same, too...)

Put them in - you've got nothing to lose. They do seem to carry on growing even when the weather cools down. Even if they don't get really big you'll still have baby leeks to eat!

We've just been given some leek plants, they've gone in after the potatoes - I can't see why not! And you definitely have nothing to lose, I do alot of the 'got nothing to lose so put them in'

Am off up the lottie tonight to do just that - as a general guide when are you supposed to put them in by?

Mine took ages to germinate in the greenhouse and seems to be a slow off the mark.

I put a row in a few weeks ago and something has eaten all but two, but I have no idea what, so im putting what ive got let in, in a last attempt to have a crop (they are still really small at the mo - not quite the thickness of a pencil even...!)

Any ideas what might be munching at thenm?

Thanks

mine still look like grass.. so not holding a lot of hope out for leek harvest.. but nuffin ventured.. an all that
could be slugs munching them - go out with a torch at night.. they ate my red spring onions.. so they obviously do like that oniony flavour

Hi Red

Not just me then with grass like leeks - feel much better knowing im not on my lonesome on that one.

I had a prob with germination - took ages for some reason.

Whats the norm for leeks in terms of growth - how big should they be now?

Mine are tiny too, no idea how big they should be by now it's the first time we've done leeks (desite my OH moaning all he wants are leeks! Still watching them grow incredibly slowly will make him happy  )

I thought slugs weren't supposed to like onion & leek??? Its the only thing they didn't eat in my slug ridden garden
