Elderflower Cordial

Post: # 62704Post Shelley »

I have just made some Elderflower Cordial. It is lovely even though I say so myself. What I would like to know is how is best to keep it & how long does it keep?

I made some for the first time this year... so dunno really - but I have put most of mine in the freezer. it doesn't seem to freeze down solid, so have used boxes rather than bottles.. as i dont want it oozing out over things!

hope the flavour stays

the rest is in the fridge

Hi,

I made some of this last year and very nice it was too, but the recipe said to drink within 3 weeks. Not sure why but it didn't last that long anyway.

Was hoping to make some this year but the recipe said to gather the flowers on a dry sunny day  Here's waiting... maybe in time for elderberry wine though :drunken:

There is another option. Make Elderflower Syrup. Then whenever you want just put some into water and sip.

We made some last year, and it is still good. Poured into glass bottles when hot, and then closed, it causes a vaccuum, and seems to keep indefinitely.

er - the coridal i made is like a syrup...

re storing it in the freezer - its not the expanding thats a problem, its that it did not freeze solid.. still liquid - and a bottle might get pushed over and then it drips onto other things. so i froze mine in boxes

Always scratching around for different approaches ... can I ask what recipe you used?

not sure who you are asking.. but the recipe I used is this one which I choose cos i did not need a bucket etc.. managable quanities and ingredients I could find. its really very nice, but yet to find out how well the flavour keeps over time

Ok, my apologies, it is the same stuff.

Cordial to me is watered down.

We never had problems with storing it. It just sits on a shelf in the kitchen and gets used when we need it. Still using the Bramble, rosehip, and cherry syrup from last year with no adverse effects.

Hi
Very similar to my lavender cordial syrup. I guess with that much sugar in it it's just like jam and will probably keep just as long if kept in an airtight jar.
