A great day in the garden

Post: # 48799Post funkypixie »

My fledgling veggie garden finally started to take shape today

The boys & I scouted around Grandad's old shed and scavenged wood and stuff to build a raised bed which we filled with the multitudinous bags of compost that seem to have been hanging around the garden for ages. Then we built a basic cold frame out of 3 reclaimed stainless steel splashbacks, (from an old police station DH was involved in developing a couple of years ago - I knew they'd come in handy one day  ), some shelves, an old clothes horse and some heavy duty plastic sheeting.

We've planted some early carrots and shallots in the first bed and I've got to source some compost for the cold frame before we plant some cucumbers in there.

I think there'll be room for another 3 raised beds as long as I can scavenge enough stuff  .

Cool! Must say I'm looking forward to getting out as well this weekend and extending our pitiful growing area, and already my bean seeds are up after being planted only two day ago! (yah!!! ) and the mornings and evenings are finally brighter and warmer. This year 'Boss woman' and me are really going for some serious self-sufficentish too, this will be our first real season of it and can't wait to get stuck in too!

Spent the day in the garden too. Cleared out the greenhouse finally. Aimed to get more done but it rained most of the day. Which led to the disovery of a leak in the quail coop. So had to sort out some temporary housing for them. Hopefully it will be dry tomorrow so that i can find and fix the problem.

Kev.
