Pumpkin Seeds

Post: # 129494Post Peggy Sue »

I've just roasted the seeds from my pumpkin last night- they make a lovely snack on a frosty day like this! Not reallu like the shop ones but thats probably because I did something different!

Anyone know what other seeds I can roast like this- butternut? I have quite a few of those stashed. What about summer squashes (for next year that is), I guess sunflower- I must grow one next year...

I love this discovery journey!

Pumpkin seeds are the only ones I've tried roasting myself, so I can't answer your question, but I wanted to share an idea for a seasoning with you that I really like. It's just a bit of salt, some dried rosemary and some garlic powder. Grind them all together and sprinkle on.

ooo that seems like a nice idea! I just put them in the over straight from the pumpkin- lovely smell but much more chewy than the shop ones so maybe not the right temp/time or even that they should be dried first?

Actually, I remember now. I didn't roast them, I toasted them in a dry frying pan. If you do that I recommend wearing a full face helmet with the visor down

You can try melon seeds, like muskmelon or honeydew.

linseed is another. I roast is and then grind it with salt, it makes gorgeous seasoning. It can also be done with sesame seeds
Opinionated but harmless

Sprinkle with soy sauce before you roast - try the bottom of the oven while something else is cooking!

I can see I will need more pumpkins next year for seed roasting! I tried the rosemary, salt & garlic, very yummy- like the sound of soy sauce too. I only have one pumpkin left now so I might have a go at the butternut seeds, they can't be much different?
