I well remember looking forward all week for the "Friday Western" usually The Lone Ranger or The Cisco Kid, on a very grainy, 405 line, black & white magical telly device.

for me it was the saturday show at the pictures. Lone ranger and tonto, the three stooges, laurel and hardy...and of course tom and gerry cartoons.....

I chose "Starman" in the end. It fitted with the play our headmistress, the Fragrant Ann, had written. I wrote it up here - http://vendeeblog.net/?p=184 Happily the readership of my blog runs to only eight people, and three of those are under fives who really shouldn't be using their parents' computer, so Bowie's lawyers so far have not found out about what I did to his song.

AAhhh... Happiness.

Well, for me it's the knowledge that I am about to become my nan... not literally, you understand!

We have finally completed on our house sale & move in 8 days time (yippee!!)
So after the initial couple of weeks of settling & finding out all the little quirks of the house & gardens, not to mention meeting what few neighbours there are, I'm looking forward to living life as if the clock had been turned back some 60 years or so.

I'm already planning an outline of my daily routine - up early, light the range for the kettle, hot water & heating, wake up the chicks, dogs & any other animals we might get along the way - feed them first, then brekkie for me......
followed by any garden work that can be done depending on the time of year, foraging for wood in the forest, housework, preparing meals, baking, etc....

I plan to be outside as often as I can, and to be as busy as I am able to be.... and to enjoy living a much simpler life!
Will this make me happy? I think so.

Hubby & I have found in recent years that we can be in each others company without getting on each others nerves, and I enjoy my own company just as much too - which is good, because I'll only have myself to chat to for a lot of the time anyway!!

Several years ago, my sister and her husband lived in a very fancy penthouse apartment in Wimbledon. He worked in banking - earned a fortune but hated his job. Roll on a few years - they now live in an average suburban house with 2 young children. She has just given up part-time work to be able to spend more time with the kids - money is very tight, but she is extremely happy. To save money, they are going to give up her car - to get used to the idea, she has spent the summer cycling everywhere with the kids in a bike trailer. They spend much more time outdoors and, as a result of only going to places she doesn't need the car for, has met loads of new friends. She told me the other day that life was perfect - I think that's great!

I think that all too often people strive too hard for happiness and forget to look at the very simple pleasures that are right there in front of them. It seems to be a case of "if only I had more money/a posher house/more stuff etc I'd be happy" and by always wanting something better or more they can't appreciate what they have.

We went out for sunday lunch and had a lovely family time
My son (rising 14) came home and said he was tired and went off for a nap - it makes my very happy that he is sensible enough and comfortable enough to do that.
I have a lovely cup of tea
I've put washing on the line
My daughter is watching the Parent Trap - the old one - and really enjoying it
My cat is snuggled into my back - he's on the chair behind me
The chickens have had a wander round the garden
We picked the one and only apple off our tree
Chris just gave me a lovely big cuddle
The house is pretty tidy!
See nothing spectacular, posh or expensive - and I'm really happy!
