Old Fashioned Lemonade

Post: # 12244Post Goodlife1970 »

Just been given a carrier bag full of fruit, including half a dozen of the biggest lemons Ive ever seen.Thought I make some "proper lemonade" and then decided to post the recipe as its so moreish! 3 lemons,3 tablespoons sugar,2 pints water, sprig mint and lemon slices. Wipe unpeeled lemons and cut into small pieces, put into a bowl with the sugar, pour over the boiling water and leave for 15-30 minutes, tasting occasionally to check stength. Strain into jug, before serving add sprig of mint and a few lemon slices to garnish (this stage is hardly ever reached in our house!) I cheated and made double the amount by using the same leomns from the first batch and leaving them to infuse a bit longer the second time,a bit of a squeeze helped too!
Now, what did I come in here for??????

Mmmmm making my mouth water now... sounds delicious.

Reminds me of that saying "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade"

I use a slightly different approach:

Take the zest and juice of a lemon and blend with ice cubes, a bit of water and sugar to taste

That's great on a hot summer's day, probably because of all the ice. It also has the advantage of being quicker (no waiting for the water to cool)

I lurrrrve real lemonade. It's so delicious. :flower:

I have tried making it just with oranges but it's a bit dull, if you know what I mean. A mixture of orange and lemon might do the trick as shirlz mentioned.

I know it has sugar in it, but at least you know WHAT'S in it. And think of all that vitamin C they are getting too!

Sadly all that Vitamin C didnt stop me getting this cold! Dont know what I did on the last reply, seemed to have mixed up my quotes with my reply! Did try the mix though,it was nice but a bit sweeter, try less sugar next time.

I like to use as little sugar as I can get away with. I actually like things to be tart.

Funny,so do my kids, the orange and lemon mix didnt go down half as well as the lemon. At 5 and 4 you wouldve thought theyd have preferred something sweeter. Mind you weird kids Ive got, they love sprouts! Must be doing something right....

try adding a level teaspoon of citric acid(completely natural, available in powder form from your chemist) it makes it really zingy!

Yep, we use the citric acid.

And yes the orange just isn't as nice, but I don't know why, the process is the same so it should be OK :( .
