Hello there Jane, the worst thing about asparagus is the having to be patient...I'm not known for my patience - I keep looking at my damson gin longingly and I only started it off a couple of weeks ago!!! We couldn't eat any the first year, this year we cut a few spears but just for a couple of weeks, they were splendid, well worth the wait. Next year we can go crazy

You should have seen the look I got on Friday night when, presented with garden centre vouchers as a leaving gift from work, I said I might spend them on a Terracotta Rhubarb Forcer!!

Hi Missie Moo, Now the time to get it, however must admit, don't grow myself as my neighbour grows so much, he gives us enough to conserve to take us through the year.
I can't do great things, so I do little things with love.

LOL I can imagine.. quite right though, just a thought but would using a big plastic bucket do the same job? I was wondering if it would make a good alternative for an unbreakable forcer..

You're quite right Steven but I do like a bit of prettiness in the veg patch too, seeing as it is smack bang middle of the garden  I probably will resort to a bucket though cos there are a million and one other things that I want to get from the garden centre, oh decisions, decisions :?
