More reasons to 'Carry-a-Bag'

If you know of a way to help save our planet, even just a small part of it put it here. Also if you want to ask how to help, or even if you want to promote your environmental organisation. All goes here.

More reasons to 'Carry-a-Bag'

Post: # 11805Post Shirley »

I was initially pleased when the co-op started using degradable bags - I stilll used my own bags most of the time, but if I forgot to I didn't feel too guilty - but reading this article has made me think again.

http://www.reusablebags.com/facts.php?id=8

I've read the Co-op response to Andy http://www.selfsufficientish.com/thecoop.htm and they say that it's safe...

Who is right?? Is it safe to use these degradable bags for my compost bin liner?? More often than not we just use a bucket without a liner but if we've had these degradable bags (none at mo so I can't go and look at what it says on the bag) I've sometimes used them and just chucked the lot in the compost bin.

Obviously - the best thing to do is not to use these in the first place and take the Selfsufficientish advice to Carry-a-bag!!

Hmmm... best to err on the side of caution and try to avoid them, I reckon. Got given 2 of the pesky things again today, even though I went out with my own bags - they can be flipping quick these checkout people!

sure can... I'm generally shouting before they start moving the first item... I've got my own bags...

Another sure fire way if you are doing a 'supermarket' shop (can I swear) is to put your own bags at the front of the items on the conveyor belt... that way it's obvious that you have your own bags.

 They'll probably look for the price code and think you are wanting to buy them! I don't use bags for bin liners - I just let them get dirty. And wash them once in a while in rain water...

I gotta say that a biodegradeable plastic bag still seems to me to be missing the point...............Reusable bags has to be they way to go! :?

I totally agree Nev! The supermarkets could even afford to produce them and give a couple away free to their customers - they could be emblazoned with the shop logo too - but they probably won't.
