Cardigan

Post: # 117564Post mrsflibble »

el-cheapo cotton yarn.
I've been pushing myself. It's keeping me sane while I'm awaiting my new sewing machine.

Since learning to crochet (and read crochet patterns for that matter) I've been giving it a serious go.
It's fun, it stops me snacking while I'm watching TV at night, and it seems live the best almost instant gratification craft I could find!

This thing has taken about 15 or so hours work while watching TV, on the bus etc. Ok, not that instant but I get to see the results quickly as opposed to knitting which takes me so long I lose interest. The basic shape is a pattern from my head, but the frills came from a 1970s craft book hahaha!!!

my little model!!
hardly any sewing as I just kept crocheting pieces onto the ones I'd already done using chains etc. It's even crocheted together instead of sewn as I couldn't find my blunt wool needle.
Soph chose the buttons.

I'm trying to decide whether to leave it white, or to dye it a more sensible colour for a muck-magnet two year old hahaha!!!
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very

It's lovely! Crochet is so satisfyingly fast isn't it?

How did you get on with making squares for the blanket?
Growing old is much better then the alternative!

squares annoy me hahaha!!!!! I gave up!
I'm going to be trying an american "starghan" pattern later today; and yes I know about the differences between american and british crochet patterns.

You`re so clever! What a lovely cardigan and model!
I sew and knit - (and felt and weave) - but I can`t seem to get my head - or fingers - round crocheting. You`ve inspired me to have another try now.

I've found that most people I know can either knit or crochet. I don't know many who can do both well. I can do both, but my knitting is HORRIFIC! Tea can knit really well but can't get her head round crochet, my mum can crochet but can't knit (concentration lapses like me) and my mum in law can do both ok, but prefers to sew.

I learned to crochet using youtube tutorials by tjw1963. type that name and crochet tutorial into youtube. she's amazing. she's got a few done in slow motion so you can actually see the stitches. she helped me so much! Do remember though that she's american so her crochet names are differen from those in uk patterns. for instance her doublecrochet is a uk treble.

That's brilliant Mrs Flib! I've never crocheted, it always looked so much more complicated than knitting!

Well done that supermum  superb job

crochet is good MMM - only one stick to play with, and if you knit euro style (yarn in left hand) even easier to pick up I'm told

I learned by watching a lady I worked with as a teenager :cooldude: love it, but my boys never really wanted crocheted items  dunno why?

unfortunately my handspun seems better knitted than crocheted, maybe i needs to work on the spinning to make crochetable yarns :?
