I have a "proper" mandolin as well - out on loan with a friend at the moment... Never quite got the hang of playing it.

A food processor. I've used it twice in the five years that I've had it. Cleaning it after use is a bigger pain than getting out a grater/knife/whisk or whatever and doing it myself.

Got rid of everything electrical when we moved out here, as well as lots of other stuff that had been sitting around gathering dust.

I had every electrical gadget going in the UK, carvers, blenders, bread makers, hair rollers, dryers, steamers - you name it - I had it.

In my defence - I did not buy a thing - no need to call the cops just yet -
I used to be signed on for product testing for a large electrical house hold name manufacturer and importer.


So however useless it was - it was FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So nothing gathering dust - as don't have anything that is not used anymore.

Bought a musical mandolin five years ago - nineteenth century jobbie, dome-backed, just needed a new bridge. It's still sitting there needing a new bridge ... but watching anyone using the culinary variety makes me cringe.

Talking toastie-maker....hilarious for about 3 minutes, now sitting forlornly without a fuse for past three years....

Electric multi-layer food steamer. Again, no fuse. But I quite like it, saves on the leccy but is a sod to wash up. Preferred my pan-top bamboo one, until Ellis tried to eat it.

Hair straighteners and hair tongs - both presents soon to be freecycled.

Nicky Clark hairdryer (another present) in massive silver box Ellis likes to trap his fingers in....

Fancy coffee-maker thing bought by my sister, too complicated for me to understand how to use. Fuse out of that, too.

Lean, Mean Dust Gathering Burning Machine got freecycled yonks ago, complete with fuse (minor miracle), as did dodgy looking electrical foot-spa, facial steamer and massage kit (another gift bought when I was pregnant and workmates panicked because I couldn't be bought booze!).

Buy a product which malfunctions in a spectacular manner - write in and complain, when you get no response write again, when you get no response go to the main distribution/manufacture site (which handily was in the West Midlands where we lived) and demand some attention. Get free product replacement and upgrade and invitation to join testing panel.

Art is to write in an articulate and amusing manner apparently - abusive letters get noted but then binned.
