Great ideas there folks, thanks! The white asparagus is interesting - normal asparagus is grown locally and is very popular so the white version could be an interesting spin. Essential oils - lavendar is now being grown on a commercial scale here in Canterbury and Banks Peninsula. We almost bought a...

Need Some Inspiration...

Ok folks, I want to start up a "new" crop - something that is unusual, perhaps even ethnic, that I can grow for money. Gourmet would be good, and something (like wasabi or ginger) that demands a good price / kg. I live in a climate not too far removed from northern UK except it gets warmer...

Oh Gawd! Why is it that until someone mentioned those darn cabbage butterflies I hadn't seen a single one... and yet now they are everywhere -so much so that when I was out planting my brassicas ( ) before I'd had a chance to water them in, the butterflies were already there  . Oh, a...

Thanks everyone, great tips! I've now bought one of those hoses with holes in that gives a "rain shower" effect and am using that in the evenings (or mornings if I ever get up early enough  ). The rain gauge idea is FAB  The area of NZ we live in is pretty dry, especially dur...

The Science of Watering....

I find I'm being rather more reactive with my watering than proactive. I hear that watering very well once or twice a week is best and to water in the early morning... What are your watering habits? Do you have any tips to share? Best method / worst? Length of time to water? I'd love to hear them.. ...

I'm afraid I don't really know what I'm dusting for, just that my broccoli and beetroot leaves are being decimated by something and can only assume it's a bug of some sort.... I guess I should be more scientific, perhaps someone could give me some things to look out for? I do have a few white...

Good idea, but you need to proceed with caution if you are to get into the realms of entry fees for competition - "free" draws are much easier, legally, to maintain and set up and alot more popular. Having said that, I know from experience that writers/fiction mag often do charge for enter...

G'Day and Thanks Nev!

I buy mine in a plastic "poof" bottle - perhaps I ought to lighten my touch cos it comes out in thick clouds when I do it!

I'll practice...

Ah, Bundaberg - my fav!! But.. there's competition on the market!! Wombat, it's made in Australia and it's called Buderim - it's a ginger beer "mixer" so when mixed with soda it makes a SMASHING ginger beer, I'm currently overdosing on it as it's available in NZ too... I can't find a websi...

Ah, good, fellow users. So, how do you apply it and how much (if it's possible to describe without using the words "light dusting" that would help, as it is exactly this that I am trying to ascertain). Does the plant end up coloured with the dust? Do leave a "layer" on the leaves...
