maybe try talking relation or friend with a sewing machine into making them for you? otherwise local dressmakers can be surprisingly inexpensive. Good luck anyway! :flower:

Did you get living room curtains yet Ina? I did get a quote from a shop to make up living room curtains for me - there are three windows, one is French doors and one is normal French size and the other is much bigger. The quote was for over €1,300 and add another €400 ish for lined curt...

Worcesterberries

Does anyone grow these? I've just had a long conversation with my mum about them - and both of us are greeting with puzzled looks when mentioning them to anyone outside the family! Theres a huge worcesterberry bush in her garden, planted by my grandad. I've never seen another one in Ireland, anyway.

that ad is so annoying that it makes me gnash my teeth and wail!
(however, it usually results in me turning off the tv in aforementioned annoyance and wandering off in order to be distracted by something else. Oh look, something shiny!)

I think it would probably work, but might be a bit soggier? At a pinch I've used tinned cherries  and it's worked out fine. Ripe strawberries and worchesterberries work really well too.

Cherry Flan

Since this is cherry season, might as well put up an uber-yummy recipe for cherry flan - soured cream turns into lovely custardy mixture. 1. line a cake tin (pref. one of the ones with a loose bottom) with short-crust pastry, no need to pre-bake, just prick the bottom with a fork a few times. keep i...

thank you for the warm welcome.... (But I'm wondering if I should own up to actually being Irish, rather than a proper scot!) Incidentally, along with the papaya, I also found some mysterious seeds that my fiancé brought back from Argentina. He couldn't remember what they are but they're d...

ice dessert for the grown-ups

not quite an ice lolly, but you can make a granita (like sorbet, but more crystals in it) just by making a simple water-syrup, mixing it with a bottle of Gewurtztraminer wine and freezeing it for a few hours (not overnight) in a wide shallow tupperware container. When you're ready to eat it, just sl...

Maple syrup and cinnamon cookies

I very much doubt that these are good for you at all. On the other hand, people have sworn to lead a better life if only they can have one more of these cookies. 6 oz plain flour 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 1/2 oz butter 3 oz organic maple syrup (Maple Valley is pretty good, but Waitrose ...
