Wedding favours

Post: # 89017Post thefriarandme »

My daughter is getting married in May (3rd) and she was thinking about using plant bulbs as her favours.

Like me, she lives in Liverpool (UK) and most of the guests do too. She was wondering which bulbs to choose - the idea being that they could be planted soon after the wedding, so they are not left and forgotten about. Also, she'd like people to regard the produce of the bulb, or whatever [all ideas welcome], and remember her wedding fondly; as well as being part of a green idea.

What do you think?

lovely idea... :flower:

Don't know what bulbs would be good though... I think you usually plant bulbs in the Autumn :? could always do seeds instead :?

How about you look into the language of flowers and pick the appropriate seeds
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

She could get something like hyacinths or narcissus, and plant them now, and take apic of the flowers, then give them away when they have gone over, with a pic of what will be. I acquired some hyacinths and daffs as a mother's day nonsense about 4 years ago, have done nowt to them and they are still thriving. Better be careful, Milims has the right idea about language of flowers, they may be saying "It's all a sham!" and that would never do!

Excellent idea. I gave out small ivy plants as wedding favours at my wedding. I believe that a couple of people still have the plant several years later although most obviously don't.

Begonia tubers could be started straight after the wedding and kept from year to year. There are some wonderful doubles in some stunning colours nowadays.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

My daughter, and my wife, are both busy on the laptop downstairs trying to cost the different suggestions.

She's made up.

Cheers.

I like the idea of the bulbs very much! Lilies can be planted later I think. I seem to remember planting some years back late spring and they grew just fine :cooldude:

Don't lillies portend to death or something???

I too think this is a brilliant idea, anything has to be better than sugared almonds.
