... I find it vaguely offensive that my recipe book has weights in grammes only, not ounces :angryfire:

I'm really glad that's not just me! I need Fahrenheit too... still haven't gone over.

And I'm only 30 this year... :S

Ooooooo  d'ya know when I was a kid my gran always had an afternoon nap - most folks of a 'certain age' did - does anyone know what that age is officially  because I think it has somewhat fallen out of favour, and I would love to reinstate it without being thought of as decrepit
If you live in a hot country then you can have a siesta at any age so why does living in a cool climate mean you can't have one? :dontknow:

I agree with you!! It's OK for people to stay in bed until all hours of the morning (or afternoon) but not OK to have a nap in the afternoon for the early risers. I'd love to do it more often, then I might be able to stay awake after 9pm to watch some telly or a film!

Ahh...the afternoon nap! There is something so deliciously wicked about allowing your eyelids to droop shut whilst sitting next to the range on a cold wet afternoon. I do it as often as possible, usually about 4pm. Can usually be disguised by having a book or magazine on the lap. An hour is usually enough, then slowly stretch, open eyes, check nobody noticed, wipe dribble from chin and I'm set up for the evening. If caught in the act, insist that I'm checking the backs of my eyelids for holes.

The 'Afternoon Nap' is a long proud tradition in my family. Great Grandmother, Grandmother, Grandfather and Mother were all professionals. My brother and I are still at amateur status (as we both have children) but look forward to the day when we can move to the 'next level'.

It is important to keep this great British tradition alive, lest it should be forgotten in the mists of time.
