I knew I was no longer a bright young thing when...
Yesterday I found myself saying to my other half with real enthusiasm, 'there's a cut price offer on National Trust Membership in this month's Gardener's World! Shall we join?'.
I used to be cool.
(Admittedly only for about five minutes in 1997. But still ).
Is there hope for me, or is the next step a teasmade and a Slanket? And one of those big sheepskin Unibooties to keep my feet warm?

My moment of realisation came a few years ago: I was 'Doing the Time Warp' & my teenage daughter's friend told me I was 'Mum dancing'! (I had worked on the original 1970's tour of 'The Rocky Horror Show' so I think she had a point!)

No luv there is no hope, I have a heated one under my desk and use it every day, with a blanket wrapped around my legs. And I was cool once too (or so I thought!). There comes a time when you just don't care any more and it is very liberating!Susie wrote:And one of those big sheepskin Unibooties to keep my feet warm?

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I know I'm not a bright young thing because I'm a recycled teenager. That's one of the pleasures of being a grandparent when your grandchildren are just growing out of teenage years.

I'm going to embrace it! I'm going to buy a Unibootie and sit in it listening to the Archers .

I've been listening to the Archers since I was a teen, so I guess I never was cool
Then again I've never really cared either way so I think that makes it alright

LOL, I've just been enthusing on Facebook. About a vacuum cleaner. A bloody vacuum cleaner, for God's sake.
I've had the membership to Gardeners' World magazine, The National Trust AND Historic Scotland for the last three years, and I'm seriously considering joining the WI (well, the Scottish equivalent) so I am 'waaaaaaaaaaaay uncool' (as I understand 'da kidz' speak these days).

I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.

As Jasper Carrot once said, teenagers and their grandparents are so alike. They both play their music or the tv too loud, they spend half their lives asleep and all of them are on drugs!Flo wrote:I know I'm not a bright young thing because I'm a recycled teenager. Re: I knew I was no longer a bright young thing when...
I recently caught myself talking to young police officers and bank managers, and my own managers, as though they were my sons - and I'm only 30, and I don't have any children! They just look so young!
Plus I wear woolly cardies and if I could have a tartan blankt constantly covering my knees I would do. I can't resist the urge to pull up young men's trousers when I can see their panties (well I can resist the urge because I don't do it, but you know what I mean)...it just goes on, but then people have often told me I'm older than I actually am (and I didn't even have a paper round!)

I changed my signature because it was rubbish; I like what you said

I've had a membership of the National Trust for Scotland since I was 22!
We're cool, just in a different way! These days I don't think it's cool to get paralytic wearing teeny tiny short dresses and chatting up any bloke in sight but did when I was 17/18 (then again I would also spend my weekend gardening whilst recovering from the hangover, I may have always been a bit odd!!!)

..when i was at a ceilidh and asked them to turn the music down...
i got ID'd when buying beer only last year. I'm in my 40s. i was embarrassedly rummaging through my purse looking for something to prove my age, and came across the English Heritage membership card.. wondered if that proved it!

My OH said to me the other day "Don't worry I'll still love you if you start reading the Womans Weekly"
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
