Ours (that's him on the left) watches rabbits in the garden with complete equanimity, is scared of frogs, has a good working relationship with all species of bird, sniffs haughtily at cats but won't chase them, but goes stark raving bonkers if he so much as gets a hint of another dog. I daren't take him for a walk, so I don't get the etiquette bother.
Luckily we have a huge garden where he can get up to top speed chasing thrown balls. Of course, getting him back down from the garden can be problematic - he loves that game. Anyone ever try to catch a standard poodle?

I would...but Finlay's scared of mice too. We had one caught in a trap by its paw, so i picked ip up and tried to encourage him to break its neck and practice his moves...but he sniffed it and stood shaking...Russian Doll wrote:can i borrow finlay to teach bruno how to catch things...we took him for a walk amongst the firlds this morning and a mouse run out in front of him....i swear if he was human he would have jumped on the hearest chair squeling

Re: dog walkers etiquette
So nice to know there are others around who have less than perfect dogs!Claripup wrote:We have a similar problem wit our terrier x staffie - he really is most friendly with other dogs but will scream when he sees them especially when on lead so the owners drag them away terrified!!jampot wrote:my jr bitch is like that vicki ,on the lead shes fine but off the lead she feels the need to "protect" me and the other jr by screaming in other dogs faces, it makes people very wary of us when out and about and they never bellieve the " shes friendly ....really!"
He is a 15yo entire male and has a real "staffie" scream which he uses to everyone elses amusement (and our embarrassment) whenever he gets excited... we've had neighbours charging down the road with hammers thinking someone was being attacked before when all we were doing was setting out on a walk!!!

Re: dog walkers etiquette
Oh believe me our three are most definitely not perfect!!! Far from it in fact and they feed off each other so you only need one to start and suddenly people are leaving the village due the "pack of wild dogs" !!
I tend to walk them in the quieter parts of the day...
