that's pretty much what we did.Andy Hamilton wrote:Congratulations!
I was thinking about this sort of thing the other day, most people have a gift list and most people shell out a fortune for a wedding. Why not combine the two? Get a list out long before the big day and ask for people to cook the meal, lend you a car, make you a dress, play at the reception. Just a thought!
CONGRATS!!

Me and OH got engaged just before Christmas - dress from ebay for £80, making own invitations (also ebay - can you spot a theme developing?
) for about £20, asking for donations of food from local keepers and fishing friends so big buffet party thing after the ceremony shouldn't be pricey either. Keeping it small and local. We might go wild camping or kayak over to one of the north coast islands for our honeymoon, haven't decided yet

That's roughly how my brother did it, too - and why not? He didn't even take the afternoon off... Went straight to the registrar's after work, invited a couple of friends (colleagues) along, and that was it. Next to no cost at all.Silver Ether wrote: or you could go to work till lunch time, strip all the balloons and loo roll of your moter bikeride home shower put on a dress ... that was the weird bit, I am female by the way
Get wed with two witnesses and a gang of friends who turned up uninvited
then get on with the washing ... we are still here 30 odd years later ... save a fortune.
