insects on beans
I'm very new to growing veggies so I'm sorry if this is a silly question... My runner beans are doind very well and have loads of flowers on but I have just noticed some of the stalks have some tiny little black insects on. Please could somebody tell me what these are, if I need to get rid of them a...

Re: what have you cooked today
Ooh! That all sounds nice!
I'm eating masses of lettuce at the moment too. I've heard it's good if you can't sleep so maybe that's why I haven't managed to stay awake past 9 for the last 2 weeks!
Made a lovely cake today

Re: Mobile phone rant!
It's nice to hear that there are other people who don't keep needlessly replacing their phones. As I've got older, I think I've become more and more or a techno-phobe (and I'm only 30!). I'm really fed up of social networking, especially all those people who are constantly using theirr mobiles to upd...

Re: what have you cooked today
My dinner today was really disappointing! I always cook something myself but today I was in a real hurry and got some quick pasta and sauce so "cooked" that. It was vile! Made me remember why I don't buy jars of sauce! Looking forward to a proper meal tomorrow night... That salad looks ama...

Re: Mobile phone rant!
Yeah I finally changed mine last summer and recycled the old one with one of those companies advertised on TV. I got 4 quid for it which wasn't exactly life changing but 4 quid more than I'd have if I'd just chucked it! It's worth sending them off.

Mobile phone rant!
I have just seen an advert for T***o mobile where the guy says "all I want is a new phone every year", am outraged! Surely it is not necessary to have a new phone every year. Then I remembered a phonecall I got about 3 years ago from my own mobile provider offering me a free upgrade. When ...

Re: metal school chair refurb
Hey - I really like your chair and it has given me a brilliant idea! At the school where I work we seem to get through quite a few chairs, I don't know why they are made so flimsy when they are obviously going to be sat on by hundreds of people and moved around quite a lot. Anyway, we also do a unit...

Re: 101 Uses for Vodka!
After reading all the things you can use vodka for, I'm not sure that drinking it is very sensible!
I used it at uni to get some ink out of some clothing - it worked a treat.
Prefer it with ice and cranberry juice though!

Re: 101 professions for a self-sufficientish, thinking perso
It is interesting reading about all these different jobs - I didn't know some of them existed! I'm a secondary geography teacher. It is hard work but mostly I love it and I get to go out and about on some great field trips. Also, I think it's important to be educating the next generation about envir...

Hello from sunny Birmingham
Hi Have recently moved from a flat to a house with a proper allbeit quite small garden. The first thing i did was plant some lettuce seeds a few weeks back and I have a bumper crop. So impressed with myself I've planted a few more bits and pieces and discovered the website whilst researching how to ...
