insects on beans

Post: # 201852Post Shirleymouse »

I'm very new to growing veggies so I'm sorry if this is a silly question...
My runner beans are doind very well and have loads of flowers on but I have just noticed some of the stalks have some tiny little black insects on. Please could somebody tell me what these are, if I need to get rid of them and if so, how!

Many thanks!

Tiny black insects sound like blackfly (aphids). You need to get rid of them. You can squash them (if there are only a few), spray with a mixture of washing up liquid and water or go the chemical route if you want to. Or you can try and find some ladybirds to come and eat them.

The big problem with aphids is the speed at which they reproduce so you need to try and get rid of them as soon as possible and keep an eye on your plants regularly.

Thank you! I think I'll try the washing up liquid mixture
