Can anybody help please?
A major national property developer, who specialises in properties for the over 50’s, has bought options over 4 properties a few doors down from me.
They have applied to build 44 flats for the over 50’s on the site.
I understand the need for specialist accommodation for the elderly (over 50?) but the scale of the development on that site is a major worry for locals for many reasons including a lack of parking and it’s position on a busy main road far away from any facilities.
The developers have so far made about 6 applications. All of which have been rejected by the local planners. Some of the applications have been withdrawn by the developers and others have gone to appeal. All the appeals have been rejected.
The developer will not give up. We have suggested a smaller development (say 20 units with 40 parking spaces) but they don’t listen.
Many of the locals are themselves elderly and the constant applications, withdrawals, appeals etc is causing them stress. There is a danger that the planning application will be granted simply because the locals give up objecting. I have already written at least 6 letters of objection. Our local MP has also written letters of objection.
Does anyone have any experience of fighting this sort of thing? Is it worth getting the press involved? Should I try writing directly to the chairman of the company concerned? Can we make a claim against the developer for the stress involved?
Thanks guys
Zoe
Planning advice in England please
Having recently started employment with the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) I'd recommend you get in touch with your local CPRE Branch. I've discovered they are very experienced at scrutinising planning applications, opposing them & suggesting alternatives. You'll be able to find a branch contact on the National CPRE website:

Hope this helps.
