Old car wheel & tyre becomes garden planter!

My mate brought this round for me today...

As u can see, the tyre is left on the wheel and cut all the way round then each side is folded inside out. A splash of paint and it makes a good size planter. The holes in the wheel make for good drainage too. We put stones in the bottom, then compost and planted herb seeds... Thyme, dill, coriander, chives and peppermint.

Woohoo!

Bronze, is it? Looks decidedly antique and valuable!

 I've had one like it for twenty years from when dragon used to teach wheel changing and such as part of his job. The rubber is only just starting to degrade

:bom: - but this thread has reminded me I have a wheel complete (from who-knows-where) in the backyard - hmm now where's stanley the knife --->>> :whdat:

We inherited a couple of these when we took on our allotment, sadly an attempt to make more has met with total failure as we just can't get the things to turn inside out. How's it done?

As far as I recall you cut along where the tyre wall meets the tread just into the tread and then use lots of BF&I, (brute force and ignorance)

thinking on - I reckon you need three people to stand on the cut wall edge and all pull the tread - you'd most probly all end up on yer bums in the mud but it should work
