Cheeky mouse

Post: # 96263Post Teasal »

Having had problems with mice eating my peas in the past, last year I planted them indoors, and then transferred outside when I thought they were a safe size. Thought I would do the same this year. Spent ages planting peas and broad beans into trays, and put them on our wide window ledges in the bedroom.

We have moved to an old, and in need of complete renovation, farmhouse, and I have seen a mouse. Its very cheeky, and will appear on the mantle piece next to my computer, without batting an eyelid! The other night something woke me up. I listened, and realised it was the mouse - digging my peas and beans up!!! I have salvaged what I can, and planted some more. Did think of putting one of the farm cats in the room to keep the mouse at bay, but knowing my cats they would think the trays of compost were for them to use as a litter tray ......

Anyway, I have moved the trays to another room, and will have to find something to cover them with. Its still not good weather wise here to plant anything outl We had a white frost last night, and today its cold and miserable with some rain.

With the weather and the mouse, I am not sure my crops will be very successful.

I have to keep my seed trays indoors covered, too - because of the cats... Or rather, since still covering would make them a bit damp, I now keep my blinds drawn at all times, and hide the trays behind them!

Would help with the mice, though. :?

I fully sympathise ... but beans/mouse/beans/mouse ...

I'd surrender and go for the mouse every time. We seem to have bred a particular red-haired strain, which I find rather charming.
