Chooks using the laying box

Post: # 7037Post chook girl »

Hi, we have a brand new chook house with run and two lovely hens. We were very excited to discover our first egg this morning, but it was located under a bush in the run, rather than in their comfey laying box, which is filled with hay and even has a fake egg to encourage use.

Any tips for getting them to use the laying box? Our house has a cute "egg access" flap so we'd like to use it (to avoid having to dodge chook poo every morning on the egg collection run).

Thanks in advance

G'DAy Chook girl!

Chooks is contrary animals! Try keeping the run in bright sunlight with the nesting box being the only dark bit because they prefer private places to lay. Perhaps put the egg you found in the nest as well.

Lots of luck!
