we made...er..'novelty textured yarn'
notice the ..er...interesting textured areas...
still, our first go..
we moved onto a different fleece.. makes all the difference.. this is much easier to spin than first lot...

thanks
we did use synthetic dyes.. from gaywool dyes. I'm working up to using natural dyes...one step at a time. (besides I will need to save a lot of onion skins first!)
we dyed it before spinning. in fact this fleece is one we dyed on a day course on how to process fleece. see more on my blog
and thisis an entry where we dyed some,

unfortunately, I dont knwo what kind of wool it was. we decided to work through fleece we had been given before starting on our own because by then we would have cracked it (ha ha).
the blobbles and lumpy bits are because we had not got the hang of carding properly.. or spinning!

Good plan to use what's there before you start on your precious hoard.
From what I read the fleece of choice for training is often BFL (Blue Faced Leicester) quite a long staple and has a nice sheen.
I don't really like carding, I have small hand carders and I don't like the results much (or spinning from rolags) instead I brush the locks out using a wire toothed dog brush.
