Hello, just joined (though it is possible that I joined before and forgot my user name and password, which I do quite often!). It's really my partner who does our two allotments, but it's me who likes web-surfing to find other veg growers, handy hints, etc. I help with the allotment, bottle lots of fruit and am hoping to get into natural dyeing of wool for felt-making. We manage to keep ourselves in veg almost all year, though not yet so much so with fruit - trees still young. Chickens is the next project.

Currently I'm looking on various forums for other people's knowledge and experience of effectively insulating old terrace houses, using wool insulation etc etc.

I like this forum. Thanks.

Hello and welcome.

Insulating council houses I don't know about, here we can do it ourselves and we're just using fibreglass batts, and some styrofoam board insulation, we'll be doing the whole house next spring and summer(40 yr old house-outdated insulation)

I'm on an acre and this house was owner built before my folks bought it.
I inherited it complete all its headaches

Check with your local building inspector to see if your can do it or if you MUST have a contractor-we do for a lot of things here (Canada)

We just got chickens this summer, and we're enjoying the eggs very much, I also got some little bantams for broodies and smaller eggs, the Rhode Island hens lay an extra large brown egg.

We've got a big garden and my OH does most of the digging and planting, I'm the designated weeder and we get helpers from Help Exchange ( www.helpx.net )

We also have a small horse, a donkey and 2 cats, so it keeps us busy.

Take Care and Good Luck with your efforts

 Lois

Hello and welcome.

We live in a rented, old terrace house, and are looking at things to do to insulate it. So far we've invested in some draught-excluders and put tin-foil behind all the radiators that are against outside walls. We really need to do something about the ancient, rattley windows, though. What are you doing with wool? I'm intrigued!

Welcome!

(Hamster, you can get loft insulation made of sheeps wool now - even B&Q do it, apparently! I assume that is what VM means.)

Oh, I thought this was about knitting things to keep your house warm.... How disappointing!

sheep's wool

Post: # 77506Post VM »

Yes it was indeed the wool insulation I was talking about. Would be an awful lot of knitting I think - and I can't knit. Felt blankets or wall hangings would probably be quicker than knitted...

thanks for all the welcome messages

Hiya VM, and welcome to the Ishers! Hey, maybe it's worth learning to knit - I'm sure the patterns would be more interesting than the insulation you can buy...
