I'm a Horrid SSish'er

Post: # 72236Post Mandyz »

I know. I'm terrible. I keep disappearing.
(Who is this non-Margo person writing? you ask)

It was another scorching waterless summer of disappointing gardening for me. I've resolved that next year I'm sticking to herbs. They grow fine on the slope. Veggies and so forth on the other hand are a waste of effort given my conditions. All that time carefully starting seeds in my mini greenhouse, and transplanting them... only to be fried. I'll still try a couple tomato plants for fun and next year I'm determined to try one upside down. We also started strawberry plants this year which are doing well - so hopefully I'll have berries next year!

But that doesn't mean I've been utterly unSSish. We just have to buy from local farmers instead at the market - and there's nothing shameful in that.

I've also been busily occupied in other arenas - namely as a mom-to-be. I've been busy making baby blankets, clothes, carriers and hunting out used items like a co-sleeper crib. When I have a 'project' to work on I become engrossed - and baby took precedence over the garden, especially after the garden started to crash (and practically burn).

My other time consumming projects include teaching a course from scratch on religion in sociological perspectives and, having finally secured permission from the ethics committee (after almost a year-long battle), beginning my dissertation fieldwork. I need to get as much done as possible before March when baby arrives. Yet another reason why next year's garden will be much simpler.

I'm off to browse the forum to catch up.
