Four Peepers!

Post: # 71873Post Wombat »

Well the chooks in the chook tractor are getting on a bit so we now have two Rhode Island Red and Two Australorp peepers - Day old chicks - in the brooder again. I dunno what to do with the two oooold chooks in the shed, seems a bit mean to cook 'em but they have had a pretty good run. The four in the tractor will eventually go in the shed, but not sure about the other two :?

Can't you employ the old ones as nannies?

I thought your hens were pets? Cooking them after they have lovingly provided you with eggs for however many years is a bit mean. My old girls are just living out their old (less than 3 years) age enjoying themselves as they deserve it after laying their butts off for 2 whole years, bless them.

I believe that there is a reason chickens are just the right size for a conventional oven...

stick a lemon up their butts and stick em in...yummy, yummy, yummy.

BTW... I have yet to keep my own chickens but I would like to raise dual purpose birds. I have no idea of the emotional sacrifice it entails :?
