Wicked! You should be very proud of yourself, your mothering made that happen. How poetic that it should happen near the supermarket.

I was in the UK last week and was stunned to see blackberries for sale - for god sake some people need to get outside more.

Glad to be back home now and like you was picking blackberries just today and passing them over my shoulder to a grateful 11 month old strapped to my back.

Unfortunately DD also knows where the carrots are and too long with my back turned in the veggie patch and she is pulling them all up and chomping on them!

I never get any rasps as ds1 likes to take them. Ditto small toms, ditto a small onion! And a small beetroot - chomped, dirt and all. Once washed, cooked and plated, the enthusiasm is tamed.
We picked hazlenuts from granny's garden which I speedily ate some of just to get them!

This makes me think of my little neice Calli the other weekend, my dad took her to the raspberry canes and she happily started picking and eating the raspberries. The only problem came when she went inside and saw mum and dad's dried flowers complete with plastic raspberries - queue Calli ripping them off and looking very upset that she couldn't eat them, bless her.

Reading all of this, and watching my daughter chomp her way through tomatoes, peppers, pak choi and basil in the garden this morning, makes me think that maybe the next generation won´t be as bad as the doom mongers predict.....

It´s certainly an improvement on my experience as a child...

my grandad thought himself to be akin to Tom Good... unfortunately all of his fads were short lived- apart from growing tomatoes. I'm no longer in contact with him through many reasons (which I'm not sorry about as he's not a very nice man)... but he had his moments.

I want soph to see where food comes from. eventually I'd like to be more rural in location, but that's a long way and a housing market crash away lol!

Yep and my Dad actually grew all our veg, though unfortunately thought that kids in the allotment were a nuisance and sadly didn´t see the value in teaching your kids about stuff like that.

my dad's allotment was in a set of about 6, of which he had two, his chess friend had two, and nobody else bothered. As a result, they were like jungles, (to small people) and we would have great times making dens, and exploring. The only challenge dad had was to keep hollering "they're not ours" when we would go too close to the strawberries!
I do miss my dad, especially when gardening, and seeing ds1 exploring like I used to.
