But Nev - think of all the cork trees you'll be saving!!
PS - what happened to the home brew - or is the Moonshine Still closed for cleaning?

Just had an idea, Nev - I've always wanted to visit the local distillery - but you only do these things when you have visitors from overseas - will you and Mrs Wombat come with me next year when you are here on a distillery tour? (The whisky they produce is quite good, actually - and they are only 4 miles away, almost walking distance!)

Yep, I did not think you drank at all mate. Let me know what you do drink and I might try and home brew up some for when you get here next year.

I think the jury is still out on the "goodness" of using real cork... It certainly would keep the cork growers in business, and there's the point of felling lots of old cork trees just because they aren't used anymore. On the other hand, especially with wine - well, a lot of wine is lost/wasted because it's "corked". Doesn't happen with screw tops! So I'm not so totally against using other methods of sealing a bottle anymore. Cork can be used in so many other places, too - insulation, floor covering etc - there should be no need to get rid of all those old plantations yet.

Yeah..... {food for thought} and

Cork is biodegradable - plastic/metal tops aren't.

Again, I'm with Tigerhair on this. I'll happily accept the odd bottle of corked wine over plastic corks and metal screw tops (the latter make it very hard to re-use bottles for homebrew, too).
