Any advice on low-cost and remote desalination

Post: # 67613Post duncang »

Hi there!

I am going to be working on a project and one of my ambitions is to work on a low cost desalination plant.
I have found some information, but any help anyone may be able to provide (photos would be great!!) would be really appreciated!

I understand the concepts, I would like to hear about people's experiences and any pitfalls to look out for.

The "plant" will be used to desalinate sea water and hopefully make it safe for drinking.

Any ideas also on pumping the water without necessary reliance on electricity would also be good.

Duncan

There's a design that may be of use to you in the John Seymour Complete Guide... book.

It's a kinda tent made with a plastic sheet. You pour the source water into the tent, and collect the condensation as it runs down the inside of the plastic sheet. It's, obviously, dependent on having decent levels of sun.

Haven't ever tried it, but I'd be interested in your experiences if you do. It's filed in my head in the 'If ever...' box.
