BAA's injunction on peaceful protest

Post: # 66964Post mew »

I'm not sure if everyone has seen that the BAA owners of Heathrow airport are trying to get an injunction against campaigners from protesting near or in heathrow. The injunction is ridiculous however. You can see more about it here. http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/transp ... 811656.ece

Ive created a petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/stopthebaa

if you feel the need please sign it

The injunction is going to court on wednesday :?

Done

Thank you for highlighting this one....I didn't know anything about it but I am deeply concerned about the erosion of the right to peaceful protest in this country of late......I think I might toddle along to this one myself

Don't panic just yet, Flower, lets see if the courts think it is sensible first. If they do, then panic.

But there is a bitter irony in this - does anyone recognise the name Des Wilson? Originally from New Zealand, he was a leading campaigner for social justice in the UK from the mid 1960s onwards, when he was the backbone of the housing charity Shelter which campaigned against homelessness.

He later became a director of Friends Of The Earth, but then got lost in mainstream politics in the Liberal Party and then the SDP, before becoming head of public relations at, unbelievably, British Airports Authority. The same BAA that is now trying to get an injunction against Friends Of The Earth, et al.

I am not sure if he is still with BAA, but talk about poacher turned gamekeeper; I was really disappointed when I realised it was the same person, a while back. It kinda shakes your faith in The Good Guys, to find that out.
