Our proper stats do state that we have been having a recent upsurge in users and I have had to up the bandwidth to double what used to be fine. It looks like there could have been that many people on here at that time we had quite a few links coming in and pointing to the forum, including one from the yorkshire police that I could not view..... Although I suspect that this is more likely to correspond with the extra amount of spam users we have had trying to join.

The spooky thing is that I'd never even noticed that was there until yesterday. Then I wondered exactly the same thing.Millie wrote:Most users ever online was 205 on Tue Jun 26, 2007 6:06 am
I thought perhaps the Aussies were having a party and hadn't invited me!

The majority of these users are web search engine crawlers, either updating their search engines or responding to specific search requests - they will always show up as guests. Depending on the forum software (I don't think this one does it) you can actually see them crawling through the site (as in see what they're viewing at any one time). It is always interesting to see what people are sending requests out for. The higher a site's ranking in google then the more 'guests' you will achieve as the site gets into the first page of search results.

If you want to be happy for a day, buy a car. If you want to be happy for a weekend, get married. If you want to be happy for a lifetime, be a gardener.
On my forum you can go to a Whos Online section and see which ones are indexing, they show up as guest, but when you look up the IP its almost always Yahoo and Google pootling about the place. My mods used to worry about who all these "guests" wereCornelian wrote:The majority of these users are web search engine crawlers, either updating their search engines or responding to specific search requests - they will always show up as guests.
