School Science Bench

Post: # 61799Post the.fee.fairy »

I'm after one of those big thick wooden benches that they have in science labs in school!

Does anyone know where to get one? i'm refitting my bathroom soon, and i want to have one of those big thick wooden benches along one side, with the sink sunk into it and the toilet sitting under it, and cupboards underneat.

Anyone have a clue? i don't even mind if its an old bench that's been burnt by bunsens, or gouged with Pencils!!

Oh, in the Uk please. Cheap as chips! ta

if it's any help, I've been trying to get a workbench together for my shed, and did spot some fencing boards, around 6" wide, 1.5" thick, and 12 ft long - I think they were something like £6 apiece - you'd only need a couple of planks to give you a 6'x2' bench - pick them carefully, and give them a good sanding they'd look good too - I saw them in "Scats"! :cooldude:

Fencing products are likely to be chemically treated, which would prolly be OK for use in a shed, but I'm not so sure about a bathroom.

But Fee, you want to put the toilet under the bench? How's that gonna work, then?

Just what I was wondering! LOL I am trying to visualise how it will work, but ... :flower:

I did come across a website that had old science benches for sale. Can't remember where or when, though. Will have a fossick through the sort of websites I used when scavenging for stuff!

Muddy - its so that there's a bench runnign the length of the bathroom on one side, with the sink sunk into it and the toilet under it - the cistern under it, the seat sticking out! Does that make more sense?

We're a bit too tall to duck on the loo here

I#ll have a look at theose fencing thingies though. After a good sand and a good few layers of waterproof varnish, it should be ok.

After much searching, I can't find the website. I was sure I'd bookmarked it as I wanted one of the workbenches myself. They had some great Victorian ones with cast-iron frames with hardwood benchtops, drawers, cupboards, a sink and taps.

Sorry!
