Keep those tender crops wrapped up warm with some hay or under glass tonight as a frost will hit the midlands and northern England. (don't quote me on this but I think much of Scotland will be missed).

Otherwise water your plants with ice cold water tomorrow morning which sometime can stop them from dying.

we got frost last night  the beans were whipped to death the night before with the high winds and about half lost all their leaves. the remaining ones got frosted last night. I did not expect a frost cos the forecast (thankyou BBC!) said rain grrrrrrr. mostly it just touched things... one cougette leaf, a couple of runner beans.. two sweetcorn

Dreadful weekend.

Image

No frost predicted for the deep south.
Cloudy over the Channel but clear sky in all other directions. Have brought in the precious chilli peppers as a precaution.

It was 3.7 C here yesterday morning but no actual frost. At least we got a day of sunshine. Back to grey and drizzle again now. :(

Well as I've just bought a new water butt, I'm loving this weather.

What's the theory on that, then?

I think it is down to the cold temperature followed by being scorched by the sun. The plants go from one extreme to another. The cold water makes it gradually get used to the different temperature. I think that is it.

Mind you with all this rain the day after the frost I think we will be ok and it would have naturally done this.

We had ground frost of -5something a few nights back... Only at ground level, though. Grass in my garden was white.

We got a juice container a couple of weeks ago, we now have 400 gallons of rainwater stored . Pity the plants are dead
