Cornel Berries, anyone??

Post: # 58090Post burek »

Anyone know anything about cornel berries? Or where I could find info on the internet? Personally I'd never heard of them before coming here. But they taste great as a cordial and distilled in brandy  Some friends (here in Bosnia) have a tree and we've all been wondering, over a glass or three of the stuff, how to 'share' it - should we just try planting some berries or try grafting or what? Thanks!

from the good ol´RHS book of herbs....

Propagation by seed in autumn, or stratified and sown in spring: by green wood cuttings in summer.

Cultivation in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Fully hardy.

It goes on to warn that it is a skin irritant, perhaps handle cuttings with gloves.

Lots of medicinal properties in relation to controlling most bodily secretions

BTW common name for the genus is dogwood.

Brilliant. ¡Gracias - que amable eres Clara!

Will look forward to controlling our bodily secretions next year then. About time too.
