reduced items
is it better to buy up reduced items in a shop, so it doesn't go in their bin, or does it still persuade shops to buy dreadful things?

Not altogether convinced by that. I think they over order as a matter of course - better to have too much stock than too little. The bargain-bucket stuff is built in to the price of the full price goods (as are returns and damaged goods). And if they can sell it one way or another, the consumerist society is being promoted a little bit more.
I think the real answer may be to look at things the other way round - see what you need and buy that, rather than see what is in the shops to buy. If it's on offer, so much the better, but don't buy stuff just because it's cheap.

I think that the above as a strategy has been largely overlooked. I don't really give in to the temptation these days........................but I still feel it. And occasionally have to talk Mrs Wombat out of yeilding tooMuddypause wrote: I think the real answer may be to look at things the other way round - see what you need and buy that, rather than see what is in the shops to buy. It's too easy to fall into the trap of buying stuff because it is on sale. I agree with MP - if you need it and it's on offer then all well and good... otherwise then don't buy it. Some people will buy stuff that's on offer and then not worry about throwing it away because they've not paid much for it.
