Ideas for a Growers Group

Post: # 54411Post caithnesscrofter »

Hey guys. Wondering if anyone here belongs to a growers group no matter how small or large? Even if you don't suggestions would be appreciated.

My area is in desperate of some local food and I believe there is quite a bit of interest in growing food in my area and everyone certainly has the space as we are all on crofts for many miles in every direction. Wondering how to go about setting up some sort of smallish scale community growers group. Perhaps, gain some interest and hold a meeting. Discuss what kind of vegetables, herbs and fruit each one of us would like to grow/has experience growing/has room to grow a quantity of etc and decide on the variety of different veg balanced out through the seasons. Try putting together a veg & fruit box scheme of some sort between the group members. Perhaps a monthly meeting with some organic growing and permaculture courses mixed in to get more of the community involved?

Any ideas? Any experiences of this type of group? Thanks in advance!

Hi CC

This is what we are aiming to do on the Neeps! group.

Take a look at the Earthshare website. Lots of interesting info on that site.

Sorry this is rushed but I've got to take the little one to nursery in 20 mins - better dash.
