Hi Everyone, i wonder if anyone can help? I thinking of buying my mum two lambs/sheep for her 50th birthday. We have a large grassed garden and two fairly large concreted areas. Can anyone tell me what i have to do to make it all legal as i believe i need stock numbers etc.

This might help at least a little anyway. Other than that i don't really know at the moment.

Your location will help :D

Here in Aberdeenshire we need a cph number before keeping livestock and a flock/herd number for the sheep thereafter.

Contact Defra in England & Wales, or Seerad in Scotland.

www.defra.gov.uk
www.http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/A ... 8909/15932 - the Seerad site isn't that straightforward methinks.

This information from the Defra website might just answer some of your questions.

I suggest phoning defra - they are really helpful

you will need a holding number (cph) which you get from the rural payments agency to buy sheep, - this number goes on the movement records so you need the number up front, then you need a flock number - which you will get from the state veternary service (defra can you give the number for this)

I got all this info from phoing defra and saying ' I want to get some sheep - what do i have to do'

I did a little page on this subject, when we first got our sheep
