Cough and sore throat treatments

Post: # 46866Post pskipper »

I was reading the article on cold treatments and spotted one which we use wasn't there.

For a sore throat make a tesan of 50% Sage and 50% Thyme and stir in a heaped teaspoon of honey. Both sage and thyme have antisceptic properties and also combat inflamation, the honey soothes. It leaves your sore throat feeling almost normal for an hour or so!

Maybe I've spelt it wrong, basically a herbal or fruit tea.

Tisane... a herbal tea, just as Philip said.

I think it's a French word - all herbal teas are tisanes here!

ok this is a method I use .
dilute cider apple vineger with water rinse mouth with it and swallow a little bit of it too, do this as soon as you think you are going to get a sore throat .
You can also use this with a sore throat to get rid of the sore throat it will get rid of it within 24 hours ....if your pushed you could use household vineger I suppose and dilute that but cider apples best and Ive only used that myself

Mix one teaspoon to 2 tablespoons in a glass of water or you can mix it stronger if you can stand it. Gargle one mouthful every hour, swallowing afterward. Repeat twice each time. you can then rinse your mouth with water to avoid the strong acid effecting your teeth

You could try sucking a piece of PROPOLIS (Bee glue) this is suppost to give relief from sore throats.I have a customer who asks for some most years and swears by it.There are also recipes for making a Propolis Tincture for the same use.
Interestingly most Propolis is used by Violin makers and gives Violins their conker colour.

I forgot about propolis, I got some ages ago, i did try it and seemed to work pretty well, although did taste a bit like wax to me. I prefer good ginger beer (not those supermarket brands that just taste of sugar), certainly works well for me too after a heavy 'night of liver abuse'!

Ha ha I found this in the book Backyard Self Sufficiency by Jackie French:

KICKAGERM JUICE

mix two chopped cloves of garlic, half a teaspoon of grated ginger, the juice of a lemon and a sprinkle of cinnamon with warm water and drink it every three hours.

Let me know how you go, if you are game enough to try it!!

Get absolutely stinking drunk on your strongest homebrew and the next morning you won't know whether its the hooch or the cold that makes you feel ill ;-)

Otherwise....
My grandad always used to swear by honey and lemon and an aspirin, DIY lemsip! lol
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
