Japanese food & Sushi

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Japanese food & Sushi

Post: # 42574Post caithnesscrofter »

I LOVE japanese food. Tofu, miso, soups, kelp or mushroom dashi with buckwheat soba... cold and hot. Seaweed.. hijiki, laver, wakame konbu and mushrooms like shiitake and others. Been gettin' into sushi rolls too. I've not braved to make any raw fish ones but, plenty of veggie ones rolled with nori. Mirin, sake & wasabi and all the yummy dipping sauces. Delish! Japanese food just makes sense to me! I mean soup.. for breakfast... I love it! LOL Anybody have any good japanese recipes or tips? Looking especially for mizutake (hotpot/one pot) type stuff and different recipes for vegetable or egg sushi.

I have gohan three times a day. I hated rice before. As it is now getting colder, will be seeing more of the claypot and more onepot wonders. I've found that Japanese cooking is done by taste/eye. This it makes it difficult if you don't know what everybody is expecting.
I think you should try salmon in the sushi - at least you will have an idea of the source.

Hey Guys!

I have read that the incidence of a certain tapeworm infection is rising worldwide due to the increase in popularity of the Japanese style raw fish. So be careful!

...my waistline secret. I wouldn't recommend eating too much on the trot, as you are likely to get the trots.
In addition to what Nev said, plenty of stories about illegal fishing to meet the growing trend.
