I'm now Live

Post: # 41575Post zombiecazz »

I've been playing with a personal website for the past month or so.
I've now made it live. It's not perfect, has some issues with jpg and thechickensand cats album is still refusing to upload.

Suffice to say it takes upfar too much of my time.......but I'm enjoying the learning experience.

pleasehave a gander.

Well done old bean!

The crafts page background is a bit hectic, makes the info quite tricky to read. ONLY MY OPINION but it's meant to be constructive critism. :flower:

A very nice website indeed.
If in doubt ~ use a hammer!

It's great but I agree some of the backgrounds make the text hard to read, though they are all lovely. I had the same thing when I first started my first site. I'd see al these lovely backgrounds to use but they weren't really practical. I really like your blog, really feels like a person writing it rather than just being faceless words, if you see what I mean? SOme of what you've made sounds fantastic too

Thanks for the advice, 2steps.

I agree that the backgrounds make hard work of the reading but, unless you are a whizz at programming, options are limited.

you could fade the backgrounds a little with a program like photo impressions and keep them

Thank you all for taking the time.
I'll look into the fading.
I'll try to tone it down....Although I like bold :mrgreen:
Glad you like the blog. It did start of as a wine making page, but I found it too narrow for my needs.

Boy does a website eat your time.
I spent most of the weekend trying to sort things out and get somethings updated and that's not even the content.

Yes if having problems add www.

You could keep the backgrounds to the pages but make it easier on the eyes by putting all the text in a box with a white or pastel coloured background (or a really toned down version of the patterned image).

The simplest way to do that would be to put all the page content in between a pair of <div>...</div> tags. I would use a cascading style sheet (CSS) to move the formatting information to a separate file so that I could write something like:

<div class="pagecontent">
....
</div>

I would strongly advocate finding out about and using CSS rather than relying on things like font tags - they've been "deprecated" (marked as best to leave alone) by the official standards body for years; there is no good reason to use them and plenty of reasons to avoid them.
