greetings from Africa, have been peeking in at this forum for a few weeks, due to not being in any of the usual places(UK,France etc)have only just got up the nerve to join!
Have sold up in the UK, now living on Mafia Island, in the middle of an old coconut plantation. We catch our fish, have chickens, grow fruit and veg. We are powered by solar and an ankur gasifier - no mains elec here!!

MAD, CRAZY, LOOPY, OH YES!
Africa » Tanzania » Mafia Island By titch
October 18th 2005

Well we got back from Tanzania 2 days ago, and the short version of the outcome of our trip is - yes we're selling the house in the UK, yes we're buying 5 acres of beachfront land at Ras Mbizi and YES we probably are mad, but it's got to be done.

For those that are reading this and thinking WHAT IS THIS WOMAN TALKING ABOUT, well you'll just have to watch this space, suffice to say in about 18 months if you're coming to Mafia you'll be wanting to stay at Ras Mbizi!!

That sounds fantastic, titch, but I have to express concern about somewhere called Mafia Island. Are all your neighbours gentlemen in sharp suits and sunglasses, with Sicilian connections?

Keep us posted with how it all goes.
