101 moments you wish you'd had a camera for

At around 7.15 this morning I was sitting in the lounge with son #2 getting him pottified when a tap at the window made me look round. There were four young squirrels gambolling around in the yard, checking everything for food, bouncing over each other etc, and one of them was pressed up against the window to see what was inside! Needless to say they all vanished as soon as I stood up.

Oh, and Nixon the fat cat was watching them from a comfortable spot less than five feet away under the car, but he doesn't mess with them. He's had a bite before.

I've just got back from India.

A few days ago, i was at the Red Fort in Agra being hassled by some hawkers. We walked virtually to the doors, when these hawkers turned and started running for their lives. I wondered why until i saw a policeman with a big stick (like a broomstick...) running down the hill after them. I wish i'd had the video camera turned on for that one!!

Went out side this morning to put stuff in the land fill bin and as I walked back in two fighting black birds fell into my arms squabbled a bit then flew off, quite a shock as I had not had my morning cuppa yet.

I was staying on someones land in Wales. First thing in the morning mist was rising off the river, the sun had painted all the hills golden. A ruined castle lay on top of one of the hills. The area was really deathly quiet. Then we heard a noise and a group of horses were galloping along side the river, they slowed down just in front of us, crossed the river and galloped off into the mist. Might be everyday for some of you country folk, but for a townie it was a pretty special moment.

Although I am not too sure if I would want a video or a photo of that moment as sometimes the pictures in your head and the blurry romantacsim that you attach to it is much better look back on.

It would be special to me... its far too easy for us country folk to take things for granted... we have a fantastic view from our kitchen - and I've got thousands of photos.. I love the way the sun kisses the fields and brings them to life.. especially so at this time of the year.

I was driving back in the dark from dropping my son off to scouts a couple of winters back, and saw the road a hundred yards or so in front of me disappear. I had time to think "what, is something on fire?" before the blizzard hit - whiteout. Got the car over to the side of the road but I was doing it blind... mind you, it was a west country blizzard so it only lasted for ten minutes and it thawed a couple of hours later! Still, I would have loved a shot of the road in front just turning into a wall of white!

Sorry, but i had to ressurect this thread as the view this morning was truely amazing!

We have just had our first real frost of the year and with the sun I thought id opened my curtains to a christmas card!

Damn my crappy camera - time for a new DSLR!

It's been white here for days now with very little of the frost lifting during the day. Beautiful - the landscape is changed into a pastel tapestry with glittering highlights... but it's COLD!!!

I missed out on a photo earlier this month - the full moon in the morning sitting on the shoulder of one of the local hills... the memory will stay with me forever though.

One of the neighbouring farms has installed two lifesize concrete eagles on their fence posts at their front gate.

When coming home yesterday, we saw there were now 3. A huge real one had landed on the next fence post. He was about the same size and clearly much more colourful and beautiful. He was looking at them both like there was something really wrong with them, but he couldn't workout what it was!

I couldn't help laughing when my daughters eyes bulged and she asked, "Do those people concrete them???"

I today put one of my female rabbits in with a male, when you breed rabbits you can never be too sure what sort of reaction you are going to get.

anyway we left them alone together for about 15 minutes and then returned to find them huddled in the corner together asleep the doe had her head resting on his back they look so sweet.

I was a passenger in a car on a local road last year, when I saw a pond in someones garden, and what I thought was a painted heron standing beside it.

It was stock still and I thought "God, how tacky - that looks awful all painted like that" and then it moved and I realised it was actually a real heron - or something very colourful like it.
