My Charentais melons have ripened! I can't believe it - I thought the plants were dying because I had to prune them hard to get through them to water them, and I have lots of dinky little tennis ball sized melons (and some bigger ones up to 3 x tennis ball size) - which are still small compared to commercially grown ones.

However they started to turn yellow and fall off the plants - and they are ripe inside! Now what do I do with them all?

Can you do anything with them to preserve them apart from turn them into jam (which I really don't want to do having already got about 4 years worth of jams and jellies )?

We are eating them, but we've also got millions of plums and pears to eat too! Help!

U can cut them up and freeze them - u probably knew that already tho eh?

You can liquidise them and blend with rum and sugar. By the time you sober up, it should be spring again.

Are Tennis balls the International standard in terms of measurement of melons, surely rugby balls would be a more suitable measuring device. We need ISO to come and tell us what to use.

I didn't know I could freeze them - don't they turn to mush? Will give it a go anyway!

I'm really pleased despite their size because I didn't sow the seed until June and I've read that they need 4 months growing and mine have had barely 3!
